Fatigue

How much of our fatigue comes from:
· Societal expectations around aging
· Our body’s invitation to rest
· Boredom
· Attitude of lack
· Pushing ourselves too hard
· Fill in the blank ___________
Ideally, we keep ourselves in good enough shape that we can remain active without feeling fatigue. Preferably, we manage our time and energy such that we balance rest and time with those vivacious young creatures – rest and working in the yard or garage or sorting closets - rest and service and contribution to communities, families, hobbies, and our passions. Do we take the time to check in with ourselves to see if we are in balance or not? Prior to retirement, we likely were evaluated by a supervisor or through self-wondering if we were good enough, were we adding sufficient value.
Let’s STOP pushing ourselves to be something other than what we are. Let’s begin a revolution of self acceptance and joyful self-examination. Let’s claim sovereignty over our time and energy, checking in with our bodies and our spirit. Let’s master adventuresome living in tandem with a surplus of energy. How do we train ourselves to relax when it was our strong work ethic that made us successful?
I have found great sagacity in my body that I didn’t even realize was available. When I was striving for goals, hurdling over obstacles at the expense of health, I didn’t listen to my body. I pushed to do more, be more, have more. Discovery of the wisdom within has delightfully slowed me down to the point where I find myself accomplishing much more with far less effort. How do we tap onto our inner guidance?
· Meditation
· Intention
· Muscle testing (asking your body - yes or no)
· Journaling
· Walking
· Fill in the blank _________
Maybe fatigue is a warning sign or a guidepost to alert us to a bit of self-examination. I encourage you to ask yourself, am I worn down because I need more rest or am I carrying an old thought pattern of default. Surely, we don’t need to conserve, our bodies house an abundance of energy to fuel our adventuresome lives as we age. Surely, we don’t have to reach the point of fatigue.
Please comment: How do you communicate with your body? How do you build up your energy reserves?
